INSENSO

An Opera Without Music

by Dimitris Dimitriadis

directed by Emmanouil Koutsourelis

World Duo Performing Arts Festival - Seoul 2019

Following the great success of Dimitris Dimitriadis' theatrical play Insenso directed by Emmanouil Koutsourelis at the Kiev Academic National Molodyy Theater in 2018 and 2019, Insenso travelled to the World Duo Performing Arts Festival - Seoul 2019.

Dimitriadis wrote this masterpiece using an overpowering choral monologue, inspired by the well-known film Senso (1954) by Luchino Visconti, which his author describes as "an opera without music".

Dimitriadis, on the occasion of Visconti’s protagonist, creates a new work on the continuation of the heroine's personal drama and thus the human anxiety about love, betrayal and the unattainability of the union.

Two actresses, Anna Bashchieva and Victoria Romashko, perform the play. The music consists of the words and cries of betrayed heroine Livia Serpieri as she violently recalls and remembers her life and her lover Hans Maller.

Insenso was first presented in 2012 at Michael Cacoyannis Foundation, Athens. From 2018 to 2021 is being played at the Kiev Academic National Molodyy Theater and in November 2019 it was performed at the World Duo Performing Arts Festival 2019 in Seoul.
